Fast, Reliable Gate Parts & Welding Across Los Angeles
If your gate is sagging, dragging, or dead in the track, you want a welder who knows Los Angeles and will show up with the right parts. Gate posts shifting after an earthquake, hinges sagging on a 1930s Los Feliz original, or a track rusting out from the salt air in Pacific Palisades are daily work for us, not a puzzle. We’re Gatewood Fence & Gate, and Gate Parts & Welding is our bread and butter. We carry the hinges, posts, rollers, latches, and raw steel stock to fix most gates in one trip. Call (951) 749-5734 and a live person answers, day or night.
Why Gatewood Fence & Gate Is Los Angeles’s Preferred Gate Parts & Welding Company
We’ve been owner-operated since 2001, and Hal Gatewood still runs the place. The name is on the shop, and Hal’s cell number is on the invoice. Los Angeles homeowners call us because they want a name they can verify, not a rotating cast of strangers.
Our crews work Los Angeles daily. From West Hollywood to Santa Monica to Studio City, we’ve welded gates in driveways, fixed hinges that other companies quoted to replace, and pulled 200 feet of chewed intercom wire out of a hillside conduit in Bel Air. When you see the same person twice, that’s the only accountability that matters. We’re licensed, insured, and every job carries the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, we come back. No runaround.
Our Gate Parts & Welding Services in Los Angeles
These are the four jobs we handle most in Los Angeles, but every gate ends up different. Here’s what we actually do.
Hinge Replacement
Hinge replacement in Los Angeles means more than swapping a barrel hinge on a chain-link gate. We rebuild hinge posts set in old brick piers, weld new hinges onto ornamental iron gates from the 1920s, and re-hang heavy driveway gates that have dragged on the ground so long they’ve worn flat spots in the hinges. If the hinge pin is worn but the post is solid, we weld the new hinge to match the existing mortise rather than chiseling out the old steel.

Post Replacement
Post replacement is the deepest part of gate work in Los Angeles. Our hillsides shift. A 3.2 quake can pull a post out of its footing by half an inch, and the gate binds immediately. We saw one on Benedict Canyon where the post had pulled clean out of the concrete and was leaning hard toward the downhill side. We core-drilled a new footing, set a heavier steel post, welded the ornamental gate back on, and added a safety photocell to replace the old contact edges. The job held through the next two quakes.

Rail Repair
Rails break at the weld joints first. On a slide gate, we’ll weld the cracked rail in place and then fishplate the joint rather than replacing the entire rail. On ornamental swing gates, the top rail often cracks where it meets the hinge stile. We’ll weld the crack, grind it smooth, and touch up the finish so you can’t see the repair. If you want to keep a 1940s Spanish Colonial gate original, rail repair is the right move.

Custom Welding
Custom welding in Los Angeles covers everything from building a gate to match a missing section to fabricating a new steel gate frame for a driveway that’s 24 feet wide. We’ve recreated driveway gate spears, bent scrollwork, and welded new steel boxes for gate operators buried underground. We do all of it on-site. Your gate never leaves your property. We cut, fit, and weld in your driveway.

Trusted Brands We Service in Los Angeles
We service the operators Los Angeles property owners actually have. We’re certified on DoorKing, Viking, Linear, and Ghost Controls, and we carry common parts for those units on our trucks. Most gate opener failures in Los Angeles aren’t the motor. They’re the capacitor, the limit switch, the loop detector, or the wiring to the actuator. We’d rather replace a $40 component than a $4,000 operator. The brand matters less than the condition of the post it’s bolted to.
Common Gate Parts & Welding Problems We See in Los Angeles Homes
These are the failure modes we see over and over in Los Angeles. Some of them, like seismic post shifting, are specific to this city.
- Earthquake post shifting: After minor earthquakes, gate posts in hillside neighborhoods like Hollywood Hills and Laurel Canyon shift out of plumb, causing hinges to bind and gate latch strikes to miss. We realign the post, re-torque the hinge bolts, and re-set the gate in the track.
- Coastal salt corrosion: Gates in Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and Venice corrode fast. Marine air attacks the welds and hinges first, then the operator control board. We use galvanized and stainless fasteners where the original parts were uncoated steel.
- UV degradation: Los Angeles gets intense sun from April through October. Rubber drive wheels on slide gates crack, hydraulic seals dry out, and powder-coat fades. We stock replacement wheels and seal kits, and we re-coat gates with industrial epoxy primer.
- Long hillside wire runs: In Bel Air, Benedict Canyon, and the hills above Studio City, intercom and access-control wiring runs 150 to 300 feet from the house down to a street-level gate. Those long runs pick up voltage drop and RF interference, and rodents love the conduit. We re-pull the low-voltage cable in sealed conduit and re-terminate everything at both ends.
Pricing for Gate Parts & Welding in Los Angeles, CA
Gate work in Los Angeles runs the full range. A hinge replacement with welding is normally $180 to $340 per hinge, including labor. Post replacement depends on the post and the footing: a steel driveway post with new concrete and welding is $450 to $900. Custom welding is $120 per hour plus materials, and most residential repair welds run $150 to $400. A slide gate V-groove wheel replacement is $90 to $180 per wheel installed.
What drives the price in Los Angeles is access. A steep hillside driveway in the Hollywood Hills takes longer to stage and secure. A flat wall of a Malibu estate with double gates and intercom wire adds time. We don’t quote your job off a flat rate. We walk it, look at the post, the operator, and the grade, and give you a written price before any work starts.
You get the standing offers on top of that: $40 off any repair over $200, a free second opinion on any written estimate, no trip charge inside the county, and a permanent 10% discount for seniors and veterans.

FAQs - Gate Parts & Welding in Los Angeles
Because the original posts were often set in shallow footings that don’t reach below the topsoil and decomposed granite that makes up much of the hillside. In Hollywood Hills and Laurel Canyon, the ground has a loose layer of decomposed granite that settles and shifts with even a 3.2 quake. The posts move with the soil. We core-drill the footing down to more stable soil and set the new steel post in a footing at least 30 inches deep, often larger for a heavy gate.
If your gate is binding after a quake, call (951) 749-5734. We’ll walk the post, measure the plumb, and tell you what it needs. Estimates are free.
Yes, we can match the ornamental iron gate on a 1920s Los Feliz home. We regularly weld replacement pickets, scrolls, and even full gate sections for Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean homes where the original iron is gone or too far gone to save. We match the section profile, the scroll pattern, and the finish. If the gate only needs a section replaced or a hinge rebuilt, we weld in steel that matches the existing age and finish rather than a bright new piece that stands out.
Call (951) 749-5734 and we’ll come look at the gate. A free estimate takes about 30 minutes.
No, you don’t need a whole new gate. Reseda slide gates from the 1970s and 80s often have worn V-groove wheels and a track that’s rusting through, but the gate frame itself is still solid. We replace the wheels with new V-groove or flat rollers, cut out the rusted track, and weld in new galvanized track. The gate stays in the driveway.
If the track is severely rusted, we can weld a new section without removing the gate. Call (951) 749-5734 and we’ll tell you what you need.
We re-pull long intercom wire runs in Bel Air with direct-burial rated low-voltage cable inside sealed conduit, and we upsize the wire to account for voltage drop over 150 to 300 feet. We also add a surge protector at the gate operator. On one Benedict Canyon job, rodents had chewed through the original wire, so we ran PVC conduit with pull string and re-terminated both ends. The intercom and access control came back clear.
Call (951) 749-5734 for an exact quote on your wire run. Estimates are free.
Because Malibu’s marine layer fills the air with salt-laden moisture that settles on your gate every morning, causing ferrous steel to corrode far faster than in inland Los Angeles. Hinges rust first, then the welds, then the operator housing. We use galvanized and stainless steel hardware on coastal gates and apply a marine-grade primer before topcoat to slow the rust.
Call (951) 749-5734 and we’ll come inspect your gate. A free estimate is yours, with no trip charge inside the county.
