Linear Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Van Nuys Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Linear-compatible hinge and roller replacement parts across Van Nuys. An installed hinge and roller replacement for a Linear gate typically runs $150 to $400, and we can usually get it done the same day. The way most owners find us: the gate starts dragging on the ground, the opening gets stiff, or you hear a screech every time you pull in. Any of those means a roller’s gone flat or a hinge has wallowed out, and the longer you put it off, the more the rest of the frame takes the abuse.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear residential slide gates and swing gates use a pretty flat range of hinge and roller hardware across their SL and VL series. If you’ve got a Linear slide gate, the wheels run on a steel V-track, and the axle bolts sit in slots so they can be adjusted as the gate settles. That’s the thing to know up front: on a Linear gate, a sagging panel is usually a roller that’s lost its adjustment or seized, not a bent frame. Swing gates are different. The hinge barrels on Linear swing gates are welded or bolted to the post side, and the panel side uses a greasable pin. If you don’t know the model, look for the sticker on the gate frame itself or on the motor cover. We can identify the part from measurements or photos, and we’ll tell you the truth about what needs replacing. Gatewood Fence & Gate is an independent local shop. We’re not affiliated with Linear, but we stock parts that match or exceed their OEM spec.

Signs Your Linear Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

  • The gate drags or scrapes the driveway. A flat-spotted roller or a seized bearing puts the weight on the track edge instead of the wheel. You’ll see metal dust on the concrete below the track.
  • Opening takes two hands. If you’re putting your back into it, the rollers are binding. A Linear gate should move with one hand when the motor’s disengaged.
  • A metallic screech or squeal. That’s the roller bearing running dry or the hinge pin galling. Grease sometimes quiets it for a week. The fix is the part, not the sound.
  • The gate leans toward the closed position. On a swing gate, a wallowed hinge barrel lets the panel drop at the latch side. The hinge post might be fine; the barrel hasn’t been.
  • You can lift the gate and feel slop. That’s wear in the hinge pin or axle. You shouldn’t be able to lift a properly installed Linear gate more than a hair.

Every one of these starts small. Then the gate takes the motor with it, or the track grooves, or the hinge tears out of the post entirely. And that invoice gets a lot bigger.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Van Nuys, a full Linear hinge and roller replacement on a single swing gate runs roughly $180 to $340 installed. For a slide gate with two rollers and the hinge hardware, expect $250 to $400. The spread comes from what we find when we get hands on it: whether the track’s salvageable, whether the hinge post is still solid, and whether you want OEM Linear parts or a good American-made aftermarket equivalent. We show you the broken part, explain the number, and get your go-ahead before any work happens. The price is agreed before we turn a wrench, always. Every replacement carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, we make it right. Not up to, not in most cases. Right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things: if the gate scrapes, if the rollers spin freely by hand, if you can see metal shavings on the track. What you shouldn’t try is popping a hinge pin or pulling a roller axle on a gate under tension. Slide gates carry hundreds of pounds, and a spring counterbalance or connected motor adds stored energy. If the gate jumps while the hinge is loose, you can lose fingers or take a panel to the chest. We’ve cleaned up enough driveway injuries to be plain about it: this is a repair for a trained person with the right jack stands and a second set of hands. Call (951) 749-5734. We’ll come look, quote it, and likely have the right part on the truck.
