Signs Your FAAC Keypad or Intercom Is Failing

• The keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad’s membrane is registering your button presses, but the signal isn’t reaching the control board. That’s usually a broken wire at the hinge side of the gate, where years of opening and closing have flexed the cable until the copper inside snapped.
• You have to press the same button three or four times before it registers. The membrane switch inside the keypad face is wearing out. In Van Nuys’s dry heat, the silicone membrane loses its springiness over time, and individual numbers start failing before the whole pad dies.
• The intercom rings but neither side can hear anything. On FAAC intercoms, this is almost always a failed audio transformer or a corroded speaker connection. The moisture that sneaks into a poorly sealed intercom box near a Van Nuys sprinkler line will eat speaker terminals in about two years.
