We don’t guess. We match the plate to the serial number and measure on site before we cut or weld anything. For older BFT gates where the OEM part is discontinued, we’ll often fabricate a replacement plate from 1/4-inch steel that’s stronger than what came off. Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate drags on the ground or scrapes the driveway. The hinge welds have stretched, and the whole weight of the gate has shifted onto the nose. The post is rarely the problem. The weld at the hinge leaf is, and you can see a hairline crack running through it if you look close.
• The opener arms rattle or clank while running. That’s play at the bracket where the motor arm bolts to the gate. Every cycle hammers the weld a little more, until it finally tears out and the arm swings free.
• You can lift the gate leaf half an inch by hand and it doesn’t spring back. The hinge pins have wallowed out their holes, or the bracket itself has cracked at the corner. That movement is what’s peeling the weld like a zipper.
• The gate leans in toward the property or out toward the street. This is a gate that is failing at the post weld, not in the panel. Fix the panel without the post and you’ll fix it twice. We see it on Van Nuys gates all the time, especially after a car nudged the gate years ago and the owner never noticed.
• The BFT control board shows a torque error or stops mid-travel. The motor is fighting the misalignment. Replace the board and it’ll be fried again in six months. The weld repair comes first, then the board, not the other way around.
