How BFT Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

• Hinge post fatigue on Deimos and Phobos swing gates. BFT swing gate openers are strong, but the gate itself hangs on hinges somebody installed years ago, often into a post that’s now leaning. We recalibrate the limits, but the real fix is often welding a small reinforced stop plate onto the rail so the gate physically cannot travel past the safe point. That’s a five-minute weld that saves a ripped-out limit switch.
• Gate roller failure on BFT sliding installations. The BFT motor pulls the gate, but the gate rides on steel rollers that flatten and seize after years of dust and grit. A seized roller makes the BFT motor work harder, which shortens its life and burns out capacitors. We replace rollers and often weld in a stone guard to keep direct sun off the polyurethane wheels, which is a detail most installers skip.
• Broken latch and lock hardware on pedestrian gates paired with BFT systems. A lot of Van Nuys properties run a BFT opener on the vehicle gate and a separate pedestrian gate with a mechanical lock. The lock gets forced, the strike plate bends, and the latch no longer seats.
