BFT Gate Parts & Welding in Van Nuys: What to Know First

We’re an independent BFT service provider in Van Nuys, and most BFT gate repairs we take on are done same-week, with a written price agreed on before we touch anything. A worn hinge or a cracked weld on a BFT gate is usually a one-day fix when we can get the part locally, and we stock the common stuff so you’re not waiting on a freight truck from overseas. If you own a BFT gate in Van Nuys and it’s sagging, grinding, or not latching, call (951) 749-5734 and we’ll come look at it.

This page is for the homeowner who bought a house with a BFT opener already installed, or put one in years ago and has been nursing it along. You’re not looking to become a gate mechanic. You want to know what’s actually wrong, what it’ll cost, and whether the person fixing it will stand behind the work. That’s what we do.

How BFT Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Hinge post fatigue on Deimos and Phobos swing gates. BFT swing gate openers are strong, but the gate itself hangs on hinges somebody installed years ago, often into a post that’s now leaning. We see this all over Van Nuys, especially in older neighborhoods off Vanowen and Victory where the original posts went in before the BFT opener ever did. The BFT arm pushes fine, but the gate drags because the hinge geometry is shot. We cut out and re-weld the hinge mounts, or replace the post entirely and set it in concrete with proper depth. Fix the post, then the opener works like it should.
  • Cracked welds on the gate frame itself. Steel gates in the Valley live in sun, smog, and the occasional winter rain. BFT openers cycle that gate twice a day, every day. Any weak weld eventually cracks: corners, picket attachments, the bracket the BFT arm bolts to. We weld on site, grind it clean, and repaint the affected area so it doesn’t rust out on you six months later. A cracked BFT mounting bracket is a safety issue because it lets the gate flex and bind against the opener. If yours is cracked, don’t keep cycling it.
  • BFT limit switch drift on the Aria and Rigel sliding gate lines. BFT sliding gate motors use magnetic limit switches to tell the gate where to stop. Over time the magnets shift, or the bracket holding them loosens, and the gate overshoots, or stops short and reverses. We recalibrate the limits, but the real fix is often welding a small reinforced stop plate onto the rail so the gate physically cannot travel past the safe point. That’s a five-minute weld that saves a ripped-out limit switch.
  • Gate roller failure on BFT sliding installations. The BFT motor pulls the gate, but the gate rides on steel rollers that flatten and seize after years of dust and grit. A seized roller makes the BFT motor work harder, which shortens its life and burns out capacitors. We replace rollers and often weld in a stone guard to keep direct sun off the polyurethane wheels, which is a detail most installers skip.
  • Broken latch and lock hardware on pedestrian gates paired with BFT systems. A lot of Van Nuys properties run a BFT opener on the vehicle gate and a separate pedestrian gate with a mechanical lock. The lock gets forced, the strike plate bends, and the latch no longer seats. We re-weld or replace the strike plate, adjust the latch throw, and make sure the BFT safety edge still aligns properly with the new hardware. When a latch doesn’t seat, the gate can bounce off the close limit and the BFT board reads it as an obstruction.

Our BFT Gate Parts & Welding Process

  1. 1
You call, a person answers. We ask what the gate is doing, whether the opener still runs, and send someone out.
  2. 2
On-site diagnosis. We look at the gate, the hinges, the welds, and the BFT opener as one system. We’ll tell you what’s actually wrong, not what’s easiest to bill for.
  3. 3
Parts decision. If a part is load-bearing or safety-related, we use BFT OEM parts. For brackets, posts, or cosmetic steel, we use quality domestic stock that we weld ourselves. We’ll explain the difference and give you the choice.
  4. 4
The work. We weld on site, swap the bad parts, and keep the gate in your driveway. Your gate doesn’t go to a shop.
  5. 5
Cycle testing. We run the BFT opener through full open-close cycles, check the limits, and make sure the safety edges reverse properly.
  6. 6
Paperwork. You get a written price before we start, and a written 90-Day Done Right Promise before we leave.

What BFT Gate Parts & Welding Costs in Van Nuys

Expect to pay between $180 and $340 for a typical BFT hinge replacement or weld repair on a residential gate. A full post replacement with concrete footings usually runs $450 to $900 depending on access and whether we have to remove and re-hang the gate. Gate roller replacements on BFT sliding gates land between $150 and $400 based on whether we’re just swapping wheels or welding in new brackets and guards. BFT opener parts vary: a replacement limit switch or capacitor is generally under $120 for the part, with labor on top. We quote the price before any work begins, and that price doesn’t change at the door. Call (951) 749-5734 for a free estimate.
